Oh yes, it's me! Long time no see :D
Sorry for the long months of silence! Since I couldn't finish Noah's ArtCamp because of commissions, I took the opportunity to do it again in winter and concentrated on doing all of the assignments. I wanted to get the most out of it and stopped working on commissions. Now that I've learned so much I feel well prepared to work on my portfolio and post some of my stuff here from time to time :)
Let's start with my new wonderful watercolor sketchbook from moleskine! I love it!
First thing I painted in there was during our "plein air"-week at ArtCamp:
This is the view out of my kitchen window. Not very pleasant, but as long as there's some green in it, I'm good ;) I did a rough sketch with pencils and painted the rest in watercolors.
You can see the binding of the book in the lower third of the picture ;) Since it's a small book without the pages glued together at the edges (like normally with watercolor paper), it was great to discover that the paper didn't go all bumpy. It's perfect for fast sketches with ink and watercolor, but it's also good for more detailed paintings.
Next thing I tried was ink and as expected, it went equally well.
These are just some faces which seemed to go well with my animal skull references :D
Drawings in black and white are lovely, I really like to do them. I have a wonderful ink-pen with a nice brush tip which makes these beautiful, elegant strokes :)
Then I wanted to paint something more detailed and with different traditional media. I had a nice reference photo with beautiful colors (I love blues and greens, especially teal and all sorts of ocean colors) and took some pictures during the process. I really like how all the blue things on my desk look together :)
I started with watercolors and painted the ocean. Leaving out all the white stuff would have been a pain in the ass, so I decided to use white ink (first time I did this) and I really like the result :) The lighthouse is done in acrylics and in the end I used some colored pencils to get more greens and blues into the water.
Next time will be some ArtCamp stuff, so stay tuned! :D
